I am almost a legal adult, very interested in politics, and quite liberal. I am not athletic at all, but I still have an enormous ego, probably because I am a good deal smarter than most everyday people.

Why do people always act like it is such a good thing to be a political centrist? As far as I can tell, a centrist is a person who either has no strong opinion about politics, or is afraid that people will label him as closed-minded.
There is no shame in having a strong opinion about something, and there is no shame in being unsure about a complex moral issue such as abortion, but to strongly believe something and not act on that conviction is nothing short of cowardice. This becomes even worse when someone hides their beliefs and then attacks others for having a strong opinion. Those who do both of these things are cowards and hypocrites.
If you have read my posts, you know that I cannot stand opinions based on intolerance, faulty logic, greed, etc., but at least the people who entertain these ideas stand by them. I am sure the world would be much better off if such people would let these beliefs go, but then again, they feel the same way about people who believe the same things I do.
The debates that arise from the clash of opinions between ideologies show the strength of conviction of the people who take part in them. For some, it shows that they are dim-witted, liars, or possibly even malicious, but for most, it exposes them to other ideas, and, while this probably not change their opinion, it shows the smart ones that their conviction is matched by their opponent.
